Propaganda. Is it the same as simple persuasion? I think not. Scale and subtlety are what define it. Propaganda is the mass application of information to make people think in a similar way. You don't so much as persuade someone to think in the same way, but slip the ideas into the minds of your target audience, perhaps without them even noticing.
I believe persuasion is far more active, telling people in the now and then why your point of view is better than someone else's, rather than the planned manipulation of the truth, mind of the audience or the reality of a situation to meet your own ends over a pre-determined period of time. PR Campaigns for example, they're far more complex than simply persuading someone. They don't just want to persuade one person their idea is a good one, they want everyone to think that their idea is the best idea since sliced bread. The Propagation of Perforated Bread, if you will.
